Minnesota Department of Transportation
Metropolitan Division
Waters Edge Building
1500 West County Road B2
Roseville. Minnesota 55113
June 14. 1996
Mr. Gary Ringus
319 Harrington Drive
Long Lake. Minnesota 553556
^0
Dear Mr. Ringus:
Thank you for your letter of May 9, 1996, summarizing our meeting of May 7 with the
neighborhood groups that Mr. Murphy and yourself irpresent in Ix»ng Lake and Orono.
I delayed responding until arrangements with Mr. Len Levine aiKl the implemcnters of
successful reversible lane projects in Canada and elsewhere were taking shape.
My understanding is that the Graffiti Bridge Association and the Concerned Citizens for
Long Lake have agreed to have Mr. Levine facilitate our upcoming discussions involving the
reversible lane proposal.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) is taking steps to enlist the ser/ices of
National Engineering Technology (NET) Corporation for a feasibility study of a three-lane
section with a reversible center lane in Long Lake and Orono on the current Trunk Highway 12
alignment. In the United States. Delean, the company that has implemented the reversible lanes
in Winnipeg and Vancouver, operates under NET. Ken Curry, the engineer from Delean that
Jonathon Tomhave has been communicating with, is the proposed study leader.
I anticipate that we will involve representatives of the cities and neighborhood groups as part of
the feasibility study by participating in a discussion with NET of design and access related
issues. This meeting could happen in late June or early July, depending on the schedules and
availability of those persons requested to attend.
We will be in touch through Mr. Levine to set up these meetings as soon as possible. We look
forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Charles A.
