DRAFT
COMMENTS REGARDING THE HIGHWAY 12 DECISION
C.No access to the two lane roadway except at County Road 6 and Wayzata Boulevard
Desien Features Requiring Additional Design Work
1.Connection of Watertown Road to existing Highway 12.
2.Overpass or underpass of Brown Road South by the two lane freeway.
3.Recrossing the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks to get back to the north side,
a.) Could this be done between Willow and Old Crystal Bay Road? Could the two
lane roadway be kept at grade versus at the lower railroad level until it crosses
the railroad just west of the cemetery?
Concerns Regarding Alternative 6
1 .Several design features included in the Alternative 6 are not necessary, not cost effective,
and have negative impacts that far exceed any benefits.
a.)Intercht nge at Femdale Road and 394. This feature is opposed by the city of
Wayzata which is the only city that had any potential of benefitting from an
interchange. Ferndale Roa l is a minor arterial with a very residential character
with numerous residential access points. The only County Road 6 traffic that would use Femdale to get to 394
would be local Orono traffic. However, there is very limited development and
very limited development potential in northern Orono, which means the amount
of local traffic generated will remain low. The city of Orono is opposed to any
design features that would draw non-local traffic to Femdale Road.
Orono opposes construction of an interchange at Femdale Road and TH 12 for
the following reasons:
