uncertainty for more property owners and will significantly extend the environmental review <br />process. <br />Consideration of Alternative 6 bv Orono ana Long Lake <br />The cities of Orono and Long Lake participated in a long and arduous mediation process which <br />lead both cities t^' *v4ree to consider the concept of a two lane limited access roadway located <br />somewhere between • urrent Highway 12 and just south of the Burlington Norther Railroad <br />tracks. Throughout the mediation process, Orono reiterated its position that any upgrade of <br />Highway 12 should occur on the current corridor. However, in the interest of finding a solution <br />that had some potential of gaining the support of both cities, and because Long Lake had <br />indicated conceptual support of a two lane roadway located adjacent to or in close proximity to <br />current Highway 12, the city of Orono agreed to consider the concept of a two lane limited <br />access roadway located adjacent to or in close proximity to existing Highway 12. <br />Benefits Provided bv Alternative 6 <br />1.Substantially reduces congestion on current Highway 12. <br />a.) Provides a separate route ^’or through traffic <br />b.) Provides a continuous Pjw of traffic on County Road 6 across Highway 12 <br />c.) Provides easy access from County Road 6 to the two lane freeway <br />d.) Substantially limits traffic flow from the west on Watertown Road <br />e.) Provides for local traffic to use local roads rather than Highway 12 west of <br />downtown Long Lake <br />f.) The location of the two lane limited access roadway adjacent to railroad right-of- <br />way limits the impacts of the roadway to one side of the roadway. <br />Beneficial Design Features of Alternative 6 <br />A.Interchange at County Road 6 and Highway 12 <br />B.Interchange at Wayzata Boulevard and Highway 12
