Some
of these impacts may not be devasting alone. But in combination with all the negative
impacts on Lake Minnetonka, their combined effect creates highly undesirable results.
The MCWD Board of Managers evaluated the proposed Canada Goose Population
Management Program at its February 22 meeting The Board of Managers concluded this
program merits active support of the District as well as the fourteen cities surrounding
Lake Minnetonka In so doing the board issues a challenge for 100% participation of the
cities riparian to Lake Minnetonka in this program Please see our February 23 letter.
We understand as of February 22 that seven of the fourteen Lake Minnetonka cities have
officially supported the program, with three more expected to take positive action soon.
The Board of Managers compliments the cities which have or are preparing to be a part of
this program.
Our appeal now is to the cities which have either set this program aside or initially took
action not to participate. We believe the LCMR will be highly inclined to approve the
grant with all founeen cities participating, along with the addition of the Minnehaha Creek
Watershed District. All of us have an investment in Lake Minnetonka’s water quality.
May we count on 100% of the Lake Minnetonka cities sharing in this water quality, as
well as public health investment? We look to a positive response from all cities by
April 1. Please let us know if we or others can assist in your affirmative action.
Sincerdv,
Tom Maple
Board of Managers
District Director Eugene R. Strommen.
