Alan Willcutt, Executive Director
Lake Minnetonka Conservation District
900 E Wayzata Blvd., Suite 160
Wayzata, NfN 55391
Dear Mr Willcutt,
The Board of Managers of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (District) recognizes
the Lake Minnetonka Nuisance Canada Goose Population Management Program for its
significance in achieving water quality improvements
Of panicular concern to the District is the phosphorus loading in Lake Minnetonka. The
projected reduction of some 500 pounds of phosphorus during the peak breeding months
of June through Augus* is an accomplishment in itself The long term benefit of
maintaining population conirol is the key to the program’s ultimate success While this
proposed program covers tv.o years, we believe it could set the stage for long-term
control as an initiative among all the panicipants
The District also recognizes the public health concern of geese populations surrounding
public beaches and city parks. It also believes public education is an important element in
reducing the lake area’s attractiveness as a habitat and source of food.
The Board of Managers strongly believes that a program of this kind requires fijll
participation of all of the benefiting cities. For that reason the Board of Managers issues a
challenge, calling for all 14 cities sharing Lake Minnetonka shoreline to participate in the
program as the basis for the District’s cost share participation in the amount of $10,000
for the 1997-98 biennium
more
District Director Eugene R.
