The purpose of the agenda item is to inform the City Council of a liquor license violation <br />at the Orono Orchards Golf Course. <br /> <br />2. Background / Summary. On June 13, 2023, an employee of the Orono Orchards Golf Course sold <br />an alcoholic beverage to an underage person. The employee has been corrected on the issue and is aware <br />of the gravity of the situation. This employee has been exemplary in his service at the golf course and the <br />incident is viewed as an unfortunate oversight on his behalf. The employee plead guilty to the violation <br />and has paid the fines that he incurred. Selling to a minor is a violation of Minn. Stat. § 340A.503, subd. <br />2(1) and Orono City Code Section 34-1. When establishments are found to be in violation, the City <br />Council may revoke the license, impose a suspension for up to sixty days, or impose a civil fine not to <br />exceed $2,000.00 for each violation. All staff at the golf course undergo alcohol compliance training for <br />serving alcohol. <br /> <br />3. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends imposing a fine upon the golf course for additional <br />alcohol training for staff. The cost of the additional training is approximately $500.00.
