The two building were constructed at different times with a few feet separating the buildings. The westerly building is to be an old horse bam that is currently being used for storage. The east end of the building is open on the south side with a steel column in the center of the opening. The masonry walls of the building have numerous large cracks throughout the building. The roof of the bam portion is 2 x 4 joists spaced at 2-0 ” oicenter. The roof of the open structure is 2 X 6 joists spaced at r-4’on center with a maximum span of 14 feet. Neither the 2 x 4 roof joists or 2 X 6 roof joist with the existing spans are capable of carrying the current design snow load of 40 pounds per square foot. Several of the roof boards and roof joists have rotted and are in need of replacement. The roof joists on the east side of the building are supported on a steel beam on the south side, i.e. the open side. The steel beam has bowed out approximately 3 to 4 inches because there are no horizontal ties going from one side of the building to the other side of the building. It was also observed that the steel beam and steel column have been painted. While no tests have been performed on the paint, it is very likely that the paint contains lead. If these members are repainted, special precautions would need to be taken to contain, collect and dispose of the paint chips when they are removed. The easterly building has concrete block walls with a wood truss roof, wood deck boards and shingles. Some of the deck and fascia boards are rotted. Structural members in four of the trusses have been removed or cut.
