The citizens of Orono benefit from the CICC by:
a. ) Becoming aware of the importance of developmental assets in the prevention of high-
risk behavior among the youth in our community.
b. ) Accessing funding (the Local Collaborative Time Study grant) brought into this
community because of the existence of the CICC.
c. ) Ultimately reducing the level of high-risk behavior among our youth and thus
creating a community where children feel safe, valued and connected.
The CICC is the coordinating force behind this community’s efforts to promote
developmental assets among our youth. WTiile the schools, government, business, faith
communities, community organizations and social service agencies have all developed an
increased focus on asset development over the past several years, it is the CICC who can
coordinate these efforts and provide an all-encompassing approach to the process.
There is general agreement that all aspects of the community must work together in order
to fundamentally improve the lives of families and children. All of us — teachers,
government officials, counselors, business people, religious leaders, coaches, and
parents — must be speaking the same language. A broadly focused effort on asset
development requires community collaboration. No single organization or group
(parents, schools, faith communities, etc.) can accomplish this alone. The CICC is the
conduit to make that happen.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION:
1. CICC’s 1999 - 2000 Goals. See addendum #1
2. CICC Budget. See addendum #2
3.
