Project Support:
The CICC has received the following project support for 1999-2000:
• $20,000 from the Local Collaborative Time Study Grant for a ‘Train the
Trainer” conference that will educate participants in asset development and
enable them, in turn, to train other community members.
• $800 from Lutheran Brotherhood for the Parenting with Vision education
series.
• $2,200 from the Wayzata PTA/0 Liaison Council for the Parenting Forum.
In addition, we are seeking a grant of $16,000 for publication of the Families First
newsletter.
In-Kind Support:
The Wayzata School District serves as fiscal agent to the CICC. This service is valued at
$5,000 per year.
Office space for the CICC at the Wayzata Medical Building is provided free of charge by
HealthSystem Minnesota valued at $2,006 per year.
Telephone provided free of charge by HealthSystem Minnesota valued at $200 per year.
Use of Volunteers:
The CICC is an organization primarily composed of volunteers. All community
representatives who sit on the Council are volunteers. (The part-time coordinator is the
only paid staff.) All of the programs initiated by the CICC depend heavily upon
volunteer support. For examples, over 75 volunteers help with the planning, coordination
and set-up of the annual Parenting Forum.
Without volunteers, CICC would not function. The donation of their time and expertise
greatly expands the impact of the CICC and enhances our capabilities many times over.
The Need in Orono:
The need for the CICC to bring its collaborative approach to focus on the development of
assets in the youth of our community is clearly demonstrated through the results of the
most recent Minnesota Survey and Search Institute Survey of the Wayzata School
District students. 398 of the residents of the Wayzata School Dutrict live in Orono.
The 1998 Minnesota Survey indicates that 20% of 6* graders, 54% of 9* graders and
70% of 12 graders used alcohol in the past 12 months. 21% of 9^ graders and 33% of
12* graders used marijuana in the past 12 months. 8% of 9^ grade girls and 31 % of 12*
grade girls, 19% of 9* grade boys and 31% of 12* grade boys have had sexual
intercourse. These high-risk behaviors are evidence of the need for increased asset
development among our youth.
I
lUi
