I •
nf-'y
■'V
N
V /N m-
WOODHILL COUNTRY CLUB
200 WOODHILL RO-\D
WAYZATA. MINNESOTA 55391
iTlTi J3
June 26. 2000
TO: Staff, Orono Planning Conunission
FROM; Edge Jacksoa President Woodhill Counln' Club
RE; Response to issues raised at June 19'*' Meeting
Cc: Orono Planning Commission
For the purpose of clarif>'ing the record I would like to respond to a few issues that were raised by Mrs.
Storch and Commission Members at the June 19th meeting.
We came to the meeting prepared to discuss the merits of our proposed project to upgrade the Woodhill
Bam and not the “backroad ”. The primary purpose of the this project is to make the bam more useable and
imiting for WoodhiU members and not to increase its capacity*. Since we received no inquiries from any of
our neighbors about the bam project we assumed that no issues would be raised.
At the meeting 1 was reluctant to counter claims without being absolutely siue my response was correct. In
addition it is my understanding that it was my obligation to respond only to questions from the Plarming
Commission. If individuals from the general public make comments and Commission members need
clarification, I had c-xpected them to question me directly.
It was stated that there were fireworks at Woodhill on New Years Eve. In fact there were no fireworks.
Some staff members recall that they heard fireworks to the east of the Club.
It was stated that there was a stream of traffic leaving the Club, presumably through the backroad. at
midnight. There was a private party at the Club on New Year’s Eve. I would guess that the guests at the
party had an av erage age in e.xcess of 75 years and most had gone home by 10;00 PM. I am told that there
were only 4 couples remaining at 11;30 PM. In addition the back gate was closed at 8:15 P.M on New
Year’s Eve.
It was stated that staff had regularly encouraged commercial use of the backroad. We are aware of a single
situation last fall when a nurseryman was told that he could use the backroad to deliver some trees. The
individual involved was informal that he had used bad judgement in that siniatioa I am also aw are of a
situation w hen a tractor-trailer used the backroad. Mrs Storch brought it to our attentioa Our staff talked to
the driver who was trying to get out onto Co Rd 15. He said that he had been lost More recently we
became aware that the Meyers Dairy delivery driver was using the backroad He was informed that was not
nitted.
It was noted that a Blue Omni automobile reguixuly used the backroad as an e.xit between 3:00 and 3:15
PM. On the Tuesday following the meeting I toured our parking areas 4 times during the course of the day
and never saw such a vehicle. We have also monitored the backroad daily this week and have yet to see that
v*ehicle.
