Benson <br />stated his questions have also been answered, and that in his opinion the merger will benefit <br />both communities and result in a stronger city which can better deal with the issues. <br />Danielson thanked the Consolidation Committee for their work on this matter. Danielson <br />commented In her opinion the merger will help Long Lake overall. <br />Mayor Bash stated in his view the Consolidation Committee has taken into consideration the <br />concerns relating to fair and equitable representation by the citizens of Long Lake, noting that <br />the City of Orono is not a large community but is comprised of a number of different <br />communities with residents of differing opinions. Bash noted the residents of both communities <br />presently attend the same churches and frequent the same businesses. <br />Bash stated it is up to the citizens to elect qualified people to the city council, with the <br />establishment of the ward system designed to allow the residents to elect the best possible <br />people to serve on the city council. Bash stated in his view a merged city will allow the <br />residents to preserve their values better as well as result in a tax decrease for the citizens of <br />Long Lake. <br />VOTE ON THE ABOVE MOTION: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />Gulbranson moved, Danielson seconded, to adjourn at 9:19 p.m. <br />VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />There being no further business to discuss, the Long Lake City Council adjourned at 9:19 p.m. <br />ATTEST: <br />City Clerk for Long Lake Michael Bash, Mayor of Long Lake <br />8. ACTION BY ORONO CITY COUNCIL <br />Kelley stated he has been a resident of Orono since 1978, with the reason for moving to this <br />area being the excellent quality of life. Kelley stated the City Council and residents need to <br />look at the future of this area and where our communities will be. Kelley commented he has <br />tended to view the downtown area of Long Lake as his as well, and in many instances the
