Long Lake/Orono Consolidation Committee <br />Joint City Council Meeting <br />Monday, June 5,2000 <br />Page 13 <br />:■ <br />two cities are already one community. Kelley indicated he is in support of the merger. <br />Peterson stated she has lived in Orono since 1976, being a resident of the Crystal Bay <br />neighborhood, which in her view is similar to the Long Lake area. Peterson stated she is <br />aware of the past problems between the two cities, and is appreciative of the spirit of <br />cooperation that exists currently between the two cities. <br />Flint stated he has resided in Orono for 15 years, and is pleased to see that the relations <br />between the two cities have improved to the point where they are now considering merging. <br />Flint stated at first he had a number of concerns regarding the merger, but those concerns <br />have since been alleviated. Flint stated in his view the two cities can work together and <br />become one city. Flint encouraged the residents to review the report of the Consolidation <br />Committee. <br />Sansevere stated his comments echo that of the Long Lake City Council members. Sansevere <br />noted he has been a resident of Orono for five years, but has considered himself a part of the <br />Long Lake community as well. Sansevere stated in his view a vote in favor of a merger will <br />benefit both Long Lake and Orono and that the people will get out and vote at the primar>' <br />because of the merger question. <br />Mayor Jabbour stated in his view the two cities currently exist as one community, noting he <br />is proud that relations between the two communities have improved to the point where both <br />cities are now working together. Jabbour thanked the members of the Consolidation <br />Committee fur all their hard work on this matter. <br />Flint moved, Peterson seconded, to approve and adopt RESOLUTION NO. 4484, <br />accepting the Findings and Recommendations of the Consolidation Study <br />Committee as contained in the Plan for Merger and Implementation. <br />Flint read the Resolution to tlie audience. <br />VOTE ON THE ABOVE MOTION: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />Jabbour moved, Kelley seconded, to adjourn at 9:35 p.m. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />There being no further business, the Orono City Council adjourned at 9:35 p.m. <br />ATTEST: <br />Linda Vee, City Clerk for Orono Gabriel Jabbour, Mayor of Orono
