Long Lake/Orono Consolidation Committee <br />Joint City Council Meeting <br />Monday, June 5,2000 <br />Page 11 <br />time to study the report and the issues involved, they will reach the same conclusions as the <br />Consolidation Committee. <br />There being no further public comment, Peterson closed the public hearing section of this <br />meeting at 9:06 p.m. <br />6. COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS FROM CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />Mike Johnson, Long Lake City Council, thanked the Committee for their efforts and for the <br />impressive report that was generated as a result of their review process. Johnson stated he <br />has reviewed the report, noting all his questions have been answered. <br />Mayor Jabbour, Orono City Council, indicated he has lived in Orono almost 30 years, and <br />is interested in protecting the future of our children and in providing a community where the <br />residents can all work together for the good of the city. Jabbour stated what happened in <br />the past is not the current situation, and that he is interested in building a better place to live <br />for the residents of the two cities. <br />Peterson indicated the meeting will now be turned over to the Long Lake City Council. <br />7. ACTION BY LONG LAKE CITY COUNCIL <br />Mayor Bash indicated the Long Lake City Council has been given periodic updates on the <br />progress made by the Consolidation Committee, with this item being discussed on a regular <br />basis at their City Council mee.ings. <br />Bash stated it is the intent of the Long Lake City Council to vote on this issue tonight. <br />Motion by Benson, second by Johnson, to approve and adopt RESOLUTION <br />NO. 2000-6-7, accepting the Findings and Recommendations of the Consolidation <br />Study Committee as contained in the Plan for Merger and Implementation. <br />Johnson staled his questions have been answered in the report. <br />Gulbranson stated his questions as well have been answered in the report. Gulbranson <br />thanked the Consolidation Committee for a difficult job well done, noting they have been <br />kept informed of the progress on a regular basis and he feels comfortable about making a <br />decision on the merger tonight. Gulbranson stated it is his view the ultimate goal of the <br />Consolidation Committee has been to gather the information and present it to the vo*‘:rs to
