MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION <br />Tuesday, February 19, 2002 <br />6:30 o'clock p.m. <br />Dillman inquired uhal type of lighting would be installed on the fire station and what type of <br />landscaping would be planted Dillman stated he would prefer there not be bright lights on during the <br />nighttime <br />GalTron commented one of the things that w ill liclp is that the majority of the w indow s arc on the east <br />and west side of the building Gaffron stated the lighting would be a shoebox sty le and illuminate down <br />rather than out Gaffron stated they are proposing to pro\ ide appropriate landscaping <br />Jabbour indicated the building committee is very sensitive to the lighting to be installed on the new fire <br />station as well as the type of landscaping to be planted jabbour stated the landscaping would b • <br />appropriate for the area <br />Jabbour suggested the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the use of this <br />building be restricted to fire fighting activ ities <br />I lawTi inquired how high tlie berm is on the south side of the road <br />GafTron stated the height of the berm on the south and the north side is relatively small and w ill not <br />really solkn the appearance of the building <br />Jabbour noted the majority of the drawings are being showu to the City of Long Lake tonight, and <br />apologized that Staff has a limited number of drawings available for the Planning Commission to <br />rev lew <br />Hawn inquired whether the Planning Commission should be looking at whether the hose tower should <br />be constructed <br />Gaffron stated the three issues the Planning Commission should address toniglit relate to the <br />subdivision, the impact of the tower on the neighborhcxKi. and the setback variance (iatfron staled the <br />('ity Council might be interested in hearing whether this building will be used for any ancillary uses and <br />the impact that would hav e on the surrounding neighborhood Gaffron noted the use of the building is <br />not specifically related to any of the three issues before the Planning Commission tonight <br />PAGE 22
