RIISOLITION IN SUPPORT OF THF WORK OF THE JOINT FIRE STATION CONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE IN THE DESIGN OF THE NEW LONG LAKE FIRE STATION W'HEREAS. the Oruno City Council appointed three representatives to the Joint Fire Station Construction Conunittce to oversee the design and construction of a new Long Lake Fire Station to be located at 340 Willow Drive North; and W HEREAS, the Joint Fire Station Construction Committee, with the assistance of qualified consultants, has been meeting regularly over the post four months with representatives of the Volunteer Fire Department to accomplish its mission of designing and consmicting a quality. cost-elTcctivc. functional fire station that ensures the long-term viability of the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the quality of scr\ ice it provides in meeting the needs of communities that it serves: and W'HEREAS, to accomplish its mission most cost-efTectivcly and to avoid delaying llie construction of new tnmk Highw ay 12. the Joint Fire Station Construction Committee established a schedule to allow for advertising for bids in late February , which is generally the time of year when the best bids are received, and to enable the construction of the new station to be completed by December 2002; ;md W HEREAS, in holding to this schedule, the Joint Fire Station Construction Committee presented a schematic design plan for the new fire station to the City Councils of l.ong Lake. Orono, and Medina in a joint meeting on November 20, 2001 ; and W'HEREAS. the cities of Long Lake, Orono, and Medina approved the schematic design plan lor the construction of a 17,329 square foot fire station at rji estimated cost of S3.545.080. including land acquisition; and W'HEREAS. following the advice of its consultants, the cities authorized four add- alternates (a 6^^ bay, a hose tower, on epoxy floor in the bay area, and space within the lounge area for tlic Department's 1 926 studeboker) to be designed and made a part of he bid package for consideration by the City Councils of Long Lake, Orono, and Medina at the tir.c that bids am received; and Page I of2
