Another issue for consideration is the installation of a new 12" watermain crossing under the <br />highway to serve the industrial park. This new crossing would be installed in a casing pipe which <br />allows future repair without digging up the roadway and disrupting traffic. The new casing would <br />be jacked under Highway 12 to avoid any traffic disruption. The new 12" crossing would then be <br />connected to the proposed 12" watermain in Kelley Parkway that will be installed as part of the <br />Stone Bay development project. The new crossing would allow for abandonment of the existing <br />1967 8" watermain along the north side of the highway. One of the possibilities when Hennepin <br />Country obtains jurisdiction of Highway 12 from MnDOT is that an urban section roadway with <br />concrete curb and gutter would be constructed. It would not be prudent to reconstruct the highway <br />and leave this old watermain operational. A preliminary estimated cost for this project is $70,000. <br />This project is not a real high priority right now, but should definitely be completed l^iore any work <br />is completed on the highway. <br />There are several options available for completion of this work. One possibility is a change order <br />to the Long Lake utility contract, or a separate contract to complete this work. We are recommending <br />further research on the costs for this project, and if very reasonable price is obtained for this work <br />to have this project completed now. If we decide to complete this project now. Council approval <br />will be required after the contractor has been selected and final costs determined. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to authorize a joint project with the City of Long Lake for the installation of two additional <br />of water system interconnections with a 50/50 installation cost slit between the two cities. Estimated <br />Orono cost for this project is $60,000.
