p
August 2,2005
City Council
City of Orono
2750 Kelley Parkway, P.O. Box 66
Crystal Bay. MN 55323
'^i/G
C/fy 03
Op
2005
^^0/Vo
Dear Council Members,
This letter is in response to home occupation license application made by Jeff and Tracy Cordes, Metro
Pro Inc., for the residential property located at 830 Forest Arms l.ane, Orono, MN.
Our property is directly adjacent to 830 Forest Arms Lane and we do not support this home occupation
license application for the following reasons;
• Tke me^borkoo4 b toned ResUential, with one acre minimum tots.
The day-to-dojy operation ofdie business has a ne^dive affect on our quatby of life. Over the
past several months we have observed the regular use and movement of heavy equipment
including a large pick-up truck, dump and utility trailers, bobcats, pressure washers and other
various types of landscaping equiinnent. The noise level both early in the morning and later in the
day has increased and negatively impacts our ability to enjoy die quiet nature of our backyard and
neighbor!]I
• PobntM negative qffect a toning variance wouU have on the value of our property. Based upon
Kaj’s experience as a trained real estate professional, we are very concerned that a zoning variance
would directly affect the value of our property in a negative way and also make the property less
attractive to potential buyers should ive decide to relocate.
• JMentbUfor drainage of bnsiness related componenb into our property. According to the
MetroPro Inc website (www.metroproinc.com>. the business is intended to be a foil service
landscaping business. Being on the down-hill slope from the property located at 830 Forest Arms
Lane we are seriously concerned about the potential for business associated components
(fertilizers, herbicidc», machine fluids, etc.) to drain into our garden and back-yard. Following the
recent construction of the large storage garage at 830 Forest Arms Lane we’ve observed an
iimease in water drainage into our back yard. We suspect it is in part due to the large amount of
topsoil removed during the construction and the clearing of trees and bushes.
In closing, we realize that it is our neighbor ’s goal to develop and grow a new business however, the
operation of a full-scafedandscaping business directly and negatively impacts our quality of life.
Sincerely,
ij A Carla Sorensen
860 Forest Arms Lane, Orono, MN 55364
/
tOSim II II
