The purpose of this council action is to gain council approval by way of a resolution for a grant application requesting matching funds to construct courts to be used for Pickleball and ice skating at the Orono Golf Course 2. Background. The Orono Parks Commission is seeking to provide courts to be used for Pickleball during the Spring/Summer/Fall and ice skating in the winter. The intent of the project is to provide a facility to support youth sports efforts in the area. To help offset the cost of the project the commission request the city submit a grant application to the Hennepin County youth sports grant program. 3. Project Scope. Construct six Pickleball courts, install fencing, and add sun shade shelters. The parking lot will require expansion to accommodate the extras use from Pickleball and skating. 4. Cost. The estimated cost for the project is $400,000. The grant proposal request funding for 50% ($200,000) of the cost with the city providing the matching 50% ($200,000). 5. Funding. Funding for the City cost share for the project would come from the Parks Fund, partnerships and donations through the Orono Parks Legacy 501c3. The fund’s project 2023 end of year balance is $385,000. 6. Staff Recommendation. I recommending approval of the attached resolution. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED Motion to adopt the Resolution No. 7305.
