I
i. LLRC and Orono Community Education
•Our Community Education classes serve youth and adults and community groups. More than 280
community members have rowed with LLRC through our partnership with Orono Community Education.
We typically devote 6 weeks of our prime rowing season to this partnership.
•We offer CE classes exclusively to Orono/Long Lake residents,typically filling all classes. Due to high
demand,and our CE classes usually filling up and necessitating waitlists,we added an additional 6th
session in the summer of 2021 for community members to explore rowing.
•Going forward,Orono and Long Lake residents would have priority access to our Community Education
offerings. In addition,because CE and other community groups have asked, LLRC would develop and offer
indoor fitness rowing classes to residents in the winter.
•We have also taught 130 people to row through our low-cost individual and group lessons over the past
4 years.These lessons are open to anyone in the Twin Cities.
j. Community Partners
Over the years, LLRC has depended on the support of a number of community partners who continue to
help make the team's programming and operations possible. Birch's on the Lake has provided a home for
• the team and equipment and continues to support LLRC through events,donations and advocacy.When
the team couldn't find affordable space to hold adult and youth winter training,the Long Lake Fire
Department provided space in the firehouse. Other community partners include Gear West,Chunk's
Auto, FitHaus,Gopher Ace Hardware,Orono Community Education, Dr. Nicholas LaFond (winter storage),
Jake Barkley(trailer storage),Zvago Living, Northwest Area Jaycees,and finally the cities of Orono
and Long Lake,and the Long Lake Waters Association.
k. Giving Back to the Community
Service to the community is one of our core values. Highlights include:
•Staining the fishing pier and repainting the picnic tables at Nelson Park;
• Perennially"on-call"for park, LLWA or other community projects where 50+sets of extra hands might
be needed;
• Partnering with Birch's at FallFest to organize the annual Mayor's Challenge Race and Battle of the
Badges Race for the fire and police departments of Orono and Long Lake;
• Member of the Long Lake Chamber of Commerce;
• Increasing our popular Community Education programs in 2019 in response to demand for more learn-
to-row opportunities;
•
