MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO PARK COMMISSION <br /> MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 2, 1997 <br /> G. HIGHWOOD -FALL UPGRADE <br /> Ilse said she walked through Highwood recently and noted there were many trees <br /> that have fallen that will have to be removed. <br /> Wilson said minor bridging should be determined this fall fnr spring use, noting the <br /> wet spring conditions. Wilson asked Tlse if the Lake Minnetonka Environmental <br /> School would be interested in the project. Ilse said she would work with Gappa <br /> on the proiect. Welles indicated Hi�hwood is on his inventorv and will work with <br /> Ilse. Wilson will walk the nature area with Ilse to determine what is required. Ilse <br /> asked that Gappa take care of the tree clearing in September so the school can <br /> work on the project in October. <br /> H. NAVARRE <br /> Gappa reported that he has the list of tasks required at Navarre Park. <br /> Wilson suggested graups be pursued to assist in park maintenance. Ilse suggested <br /> advertisin�. McDermott indicated that advertisin� had been done but no resqonse <br /> was heard. <br /> (#4} LONG TERM FUNDING- ILSE <br /> Jim White is chair of long term funding and was absent. A report will be given at <br /> the October meetin�. <br /> (#5) OPEN SPACE PLAN <br /> Wilson asked for Commission direction on where to go from here regarding open space <br /> planning. She asked what the priorities are for this area. <br /> Wilson said open spaces of at least 10 acre parcels have been identified with a list of <br /> possible ideas. She asked if the Commission was in agreement with the list and ready to <br /> discuss with Council. Welles suggested the ideas, goals, and mission be articulated. <br /> McDermott said he saw the list as a shoppin� list of PIDs. Wilson asked if thev should be <br /> grouped or prioritized. Erickson suggested prioritizing the list. <br /> Wilson asked what the philasophy is behind open space; is the need for more open, <br /> undeveloped, and natural space or more parks. Ilse answered that it was all of those. <br /> Wilson questioned how much more open space. <br /> Beal questioned what the goals and objectives are. <br /> Ilse asked when it should go to Council. <br /> 9 <br />
