MINUTES �F THE REGULAR ORON(�PARK COMMISSION <br /> MEETING HELD ON APRIL ?, I99'7 <br /> (Bederwood Basketball - Continued) <br /> Shields indicated she has not made any atternpt at raising the funds. Shields said she was <br /> informed that the cost wouid be about $5,000. She asked what she could do to assist in <br /> moving forward on this request. Shields said the court was needed for the older children. <br /> The site far the court had been determined at the 1996 Park Tour, northeast of the well. <br /> Slight grading was said to be required. <br /> Wilson informed Shields that the request would be added to the park plan and discussed. <br /> Shields suggested that a community ga.rage sale, such as the one being conducted by <br /> Goodwill on May l, could be done for raising Park funds. This could be accomplished <br /> through a neighborhoad garage sale with donations made on behalf of the City towards <br /> funding of the basketball court or other park needs. Shields said she would assist with <br /> organization of such a sa1e. <br /> (#13) TREE PRESERVATION PULICY <br /> Beal reported havin$reviewed policies on tree preservation made by other cities. He said <br /> he felt the direction from others was for a policy guideline rather than an ordinance. He <br /> said he would like to see a law regarding tree preservation. Beal said what he wrote <br /> began as a general policy. <br /> McDermott indicated that Moorse has started wark on a tree preservation ordinance, and <br /> Mayor Cal}ahan had asked the Park Cammission to author it. <br /> Wilson said Callahan had indicated at the joint meetin�; on open space that preservation of <br /> trees was an important factor and was assigning the issue to the Park Commission for <br /> review. Wilson indicated points made at the meeting were favorable towards development <br /> palicy guidelines. She said she had a problem with infringing on the individual rights of <br /> property owners. The meeting had raised the issue af regulating such a policy on <br /> individual praperties. Wilson said she objected to policing of private property. Wilson <br /> indicated she feels people have the right to do what they want with their personal private <br /> property. <br /> Beal indicated the policy is directed at developments. <br /> Wilson said she was in favor of a replacement type policy. <br /> McDermott asked Wilson if she felt individuals should have the right to clear their land of <br /> trees. Wilson indicated that she felt they do as long as they meet hardcover regulations. <br /> She would, however, like to see replacement of trees. <br /> 9 <br />
