MINUTES OF THE REGULAR OR�NO PAR1C COMMISSION <br /> MEETING HELD t�N APRIL ?, 1997 <br /> (#4 - Adopt-a-Park- Continued) <br /> Kelley informed the Gornmission that the City had given $20,000 for park improvements <br /> at Bederwood. He said he assumes there is City owned equipment there and is concerned <br /> about the maintenance issue. He noted problems with the shingles on the roof and the <br /> back stops. The poles for the fencing have heaved He asked that these issues be <br /> addressed indicating a possible coaperative effort with the baseball association regarding <br /> maintenance. Kelley questioned who should be maintaining the park. McDermott noted a <br /> concern over usage of the park and su��;ested a possible fee be considered. McDermott <br /> also said he feels maintenance cast should come out of the capital maintenance in the City <br /> budget. Kelley said he agreed. Gappa said he would be visiting the parks on Wednesday <br /> and would Ic�ok at these problems when visiting Bederwood. <br /> Livingston Tower will be placed on the list soliciting for volunteers for park maintenance. <br /> The Commission would like to see a neighborhood person volunteer here and possibly <br /> plant a small garden. <br /> Navarre Park will be placed on the list soliciting for valunteers. McDermott noted the <br /> park needs major improvements. <br /> Patty Affeldt will be called regarding Saga Hill asking for her continued input regarding <br /> any needs that arise. It was noted that the neighborhood group has applied with the City <br /> far a grant to purchase three additional lots on Saga Hill. Na City fi�nds are committed at <br /> this time. <br /> Casco Point Beach and Sandy Beach will be added to the list soliciting for volunteer <br /> assistance. Lydiard Beach will be maintained by McDermott. It was noted that the trash <br /> cans at Summit Beach on Long Lake are not emptied often enough. Gappa indicated the <br /> public works peaple axe responsible for this, and he is in the process of assigning park <br /> responsibilities to the personnel giving them ownership over what occurs at the parks. <br /> Gappa was asked to review needs at Bederwood and at Hackberry. Wilson asked Gappa <br /> to regularly check the condition of the t-ball fields at Hackberry as they have a tendency of <br /> becoming weedy. <br /> (#5) CANOE SIGN-UP <br /> This agenda item will be discussed at a future meeting. <br /> 4 <br />
