4. RE-ROOFING OVER SHAKE
PROCEDURE No. 9
INSTALLING AND NAILING GERARD TILE PANELS AMC
CENTER OF UPPER TILE
I I "SPECIAL NOTE:Due to die differences,
batten spacing is different for Tile than Shake.
Tile:14 3/tt'(365 mm)
END OF TILE Shake:14 9hs'(370 mm)
Be sure to position the battens to fit the panel
I
OVERLAPINTERLOCK profile you are installing.
END OF TILE
PURPOSE
To provide a new roof covering securely
fastened to the existing roof.
LAYING GERARD SHAKE
The end lap modules on either outer edge
interlock horizontally in the same manner
as Gerard Tile. Adjacent higher and lower
courses of shake panels interlock by
I staggering each course by one-half of a
3 panel. (See III.) This stagger provides the
random patterned appearance of natural
Z 3 wood shake. The Gerard shake panels
4 cannot be laid straight or randomly
staggered.
6
6 NAILING GERARD SHAKE
The Gerard shake is nailed in the same
manner as Gerard Tile, through the down-
6 turned nose at an angle. Panel fasteners
must have full attachment into the battens.
IF The shake has four recessed and five
raised shake impressions,nailing along the
nose is always performed on a raised
section. (See 111.) There are five (5) nails
per shake panel.
'! RAKE/GABLE EDGE
Due to the shake panels half-panel
stagger, it is necessary to tum up all rake
edges a 14'(12.5mm). Each panel must be
able to carry water down onto the next
panel,so water drains out to the fascia. If
Gerard Tile Pan Metal is used, the 14'
(12.5mm)bend-up is not required.
A(SHAKE ONL17
To prevent slipping of the courses, tack
every other course as it is laid.Pay close
attention to panel alignment. Panels
must be staggered by half a panel.
i
d
s
s
d
d
0 GERARD® Page 40 0 Gerard Roofing Technologies.2001-03-01
