AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No.: 9 Date: August 28, 2017 <br />Item Description: Hire Management Assistant, Nola Dickhausen <br />Presenter: Doug Reeder, Interim City Agenda Consent Agenda <br />Administrator Section: <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to gain approval to fill the management assistant position. <br />2. Background. The City Council has authorized the recruitment of a management assistant to replace <br />Rachel Dodge. Staff has advertised the position, and has received 8 applicants. The City Administrator, <br />City Clerk, Public Works Director, and Community Development Director interviewed the top 4 <br />candidates that meet the minimum requirements of the position, recommended one candidate best fitting <br />into the needs of the position, department, and community. <br />Through this process, Staff believes Nola Dickhausen best addresses the needs of the City of Orono and <br />will be a fine addition to our team. She has many years' experience assisting the public and staff at the <br />front desk and adds a strong customer centric mentality to city hall. <br />In discussions with the new union representing the city hall staff the City Administrator has reached an <br />agreement with the union that we will not alter the other front desk position now occupied by Monica <br />Fadness until August of 2018 at which time she is eligible to retire. <br />3. Funding. This position is funded in the 2017 budget. Nola will start at Grade 7, Starting step <br />earning $47,385. <br />4. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends hiring Nola Dickhausen to the position of management <br />assistant at the Grade 7, step 0, ($47,385). <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to hire Nola Dickhausen to the position of Management Assistant at Grade 7, Step 0. <br />Prepared By: J.
