From: Doug Reeder
Sent. Monday,'June 12,2017 1:24 PM
To: Anna Carlson
Subject: FW., Wayzata Fire Contract
Please put this on council table for each
From: Katie Simpson I
Sent: Monday, June 12, 2017 1:08 PM
To: Doug Reeder <dreeder@c1-orono.rnn.us>
Cc: Denny Walsh <dwal[sh2@cLcrono.rnn.us>; Richard Crosby <rcrosby@c1.orono.mn.us>; Wendy Dankey
<wdankey@cl.orono.rnn.u&>; Aaron H. Printup <aprlrrtup@Dc1.orono.mn.us>, Victoria Seals <vseals@cl.orono.mn.us>
Subject: Wayzata Fire Contract
Doug.
I am writing today because on Saturday I was told that the Wayzata Fire CDntract was back on the agenda for
ffie City Council Meeting tonight I can not attend so I hope my letter can be read aloud at the meeting end go
on formal record.
I live in the area serviced by ffic Wayzata Fire Depzrtment and I have lived here for nearly 20 yea=. We are
very concerned about ffic change in service to the Long Lake Fim Department because the response time will be
longer. Even if dwy can respond under the N FPA standard time of 10 minutes it is still predicted to be a
longer response time then the Wayzata Fire Department. Even If the response time is similar to all
Orono citizens it still concerns me when I know another fire department can get to me faster. I don't
believe this would be on the agenda if any of the council members or the Mayor lived in the area
serviced by Wayzata. I think they should put themselves in our shoes and consider how it would feel
to have your family and home threatened by fire and consider the damage that could take place in
that 2 extra minutes.
I attended the last council meeting where this issue was disCUssed and one council member argued
that the police will typically respond first and assess the scene. I have had Wayzata Fire Department
at my home tvAce and both times Wayzata Fire arrived before the Orono Police.
This contract has been In place for 50 years. I can't understand how 50 years of Orono CRY Council
members have never had a concern about this contract until now. This Is an essential service the City
provides and it should be provided at the best possible level because human lives are at stake.
I was provided the figures below that each Orono property owner now contributes to the Wayzata
contract:
$260,000 home value $1.76 per YEAR
$600,000 home value $3.75 per YEAR
$1,000,000 home value - $8.44 per YEAR
$2,000,000 home value $17.81 per YEAR
