Big Island Nature Park Management Plan November 2011 <br />____________________________________________________________________________ <br />20 <br /> <br />● Encourage volunteer opportunities and promote volunteering that promotes long-term <br />community stewardship of the Park <br />● Provide opportunities for input regarding Park management and development from the <br />public <br />● Establish a permit system for educational and service activities to ensure that such <br />activities are consistent with the above goals <br /> <br /> <br />Interpretive Services Management Recommendations <br /> <br />1) The City in conjunction with MCWD and other stakeholders should develop an Interpretive <br />Plan to guide the development of interpretive materials, programs and activities. <br />2) Consideration should be given to establishing a ‗Friends of Big Island Nature Park‘ <br />volunteer organization that will assist in promoting and providing for interpretive and <br />educational programs. <br />3) Because interpretive staffing for the Park is not expected in the foreseeable future, physical <br />interpretive elements should be developed to be largely self-guiding; for example, trail <br />maps and interpretive brochures keyed to interpretive trail markers placed at selected <br />locations of interest. <br />4) A formal inventory and location survey of important historical, cultural and natural features <br />within the Park should be developed and maintained as a baseline for future maintenance, <br />study and interpretation. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
