Grading/excavation for the
wetland enhancement is just about complete, with final grading occurring tomorrow(Tues) morning;the excavator
machine will leave the site mid-day tomorrow. Some of the wetland frost was thicker as we proceeded with grading,
making soil handling more challenging; however, final grading generally follows the design plans. All erosion control
BMPs remain in place.
Rather than stabilizing exposed soil with cover crop now and herbiciding in the spring prior to native seed installation,
AES plans to install a seed mix of cover crop and select, aggressive natives from the design's specified native seed mixes,
followed by straw mulch;we plan to install this seed/straw later this week. Our hope is that this approach will jump-
start the revegetation in thin-spread areas not requiring aggressive herbicide preparation (intensive herbicide prep will
still occur in the existing areas of cattail and reed canary grass around the thin-spread area). AES will still install all
specified native seed, and if necessary due to cattail regrowth, herbicide the wetland and re-seed with the specified
native seed mix to achieve performance standards.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
- Doug
Douglas M.
