PART 1 DIVISION 7 - THERMAL AND MOISTURE PROTECTION
Nelson Orangery 9415.00
October 3, 1994 1
07100. DAMPPROOFING
A. PREPARATION
1. Concrete and reinforced and unreinforced concrete block surfaces must be cured a
minimum of 7 days prior to application of membrane dampproofing(or until dry).
2. All vertical walls, concrete coves, and footings must be properly prepared for
dampproofing by removing all fins, ridges, particles, and sharp edges. Clean surfaces
with high pressure air,or when no compressed air is available, sweep clean with brooms.
This includes the use of grinding tools to smooth off rough edges where required.
B. MATERIALS
1. Troweled on Hydrocide mastic coating- 1 coat.
2. 6 mi polyethylene sheet.
C. EXECUTION
1. Exterior face of foundation wall to recieve dampproofing.
07150. VAPOR BARRIER
A. MATERIALS
1. Vapor Barrier: 6 mil polyethylene sheets.
2. Seam Tape: "3M"No. 8086(polypropylene with permanent acrylic adhesive).
3. Alternate Seam Sealing: The Contractor may seal seams by caulking continuously with
Tremco Acoustical Sealant.
4. Silicone Caulking: Caulking shall be G.E."Silprur weatherproofing sealant.
B. EXECUTION
1. AN seams must occur over framing members and be sealed continuously with vapor barrier
tape. All edges must be sealed.
2. Lap vapor barriers with strips of vapor barrier installed during framing and seal tightly.
3. All penetrations through the vapor barrier such as ducts, vents, plumbing pipes, and
electrical wires must be carefully sealed and caulked continuously with acoustical sealant
("Tremco Acoustical Sealant"or equal)or taped with seam tape.
4. Use silicone caulking to seal metal to metal pints between metal flues and flue collars.
See Standard Details.
5. All electrical boxes in exterior insulated walls are to be installed within a Lessco Air-vapor
Barrier Box,distributed by Shelter Supply, Inc.8544266. Seal all penetrations into the
Air-vapor Barrier Box with acoustical sealant ("Tremoo Acoustical Sealant"or equal). The
vapor barrier is to be sealed to the flanges of the box with seam tape.
6. All tears and punctures of all sizes must be patched and sealed.
7. Vapor barrier is to be sealed to the frames of all windows and doors with acoustical sealant.
07190. BUILDING SHEATHING PAPER
A. STANDARDS
1. All building paper installed on exterior surfaces shall conform to ASTM D-226 or F.S.
HH-F191 A.
B. MATERIALS
1. Building paper: Shall be"Tyvek"as manufactured by DuPont Company.
2. Seam Tape: "3M"No. 8086(polypropylene with permanent acrylic adhesive).
3. Ice dam protection material: Bituthene Ice and Water Shield as manufactured by W.R.
Grace Co. Install as indicated on the drawings and according to the manufacturers
specifications.
C. EXECUTION
1. Building sheathing paper is to wrap over the flashing at the heads of all windows and
behind at the sides of all windows. See Standard Details.
2. Use seam tape to seal laps of building paper.
