LIDS[: All lumber must be grade-stamped by an agency certified by the Board of <br /> Review of the American Lumber Standards Committee and manufactured in accordance <br /> with product Standard 20-70, as published by the Department of Commerce. <br /> (a) Moisture Content: The moisture content of rough construction lumber, 2"or less <br /> in thickness, shall be 19%or less at the time of installation and shall be stamped <br /> "S-Dry." <br /> (b) pressure-Treated: All lumber designated as"Pressure-Treated"on the Drawings <br /> and all lumber that comes in direct contact with masonry or concrete shall be <br /> pressure-treated with a preservative to protect against wood decay. These <br /> materials shall be certified by the preservative treater as complying with the <br /> treating, drying, retention, and penetration requirements of the American Wood <br /> Preservers Bureau's AWPB-FDN standard and shall be appropriately marked <br /> attesting to such compliance. <br /> (1) All pressure-treated materials cut in the field must be field-treated until the <br /> wood absorbs no more preservative. (Treat with the same preservative <br /> used in original treatment.) <br /> (c) Grades: All wood except premanufactured trusses and laminated veneer lumber <br /> beams shall have the following minimum properties as per the most recently <br /> adopted UBC edition. (1986 edition listed, revise when 94 is adopted): <br /> (1) Studs, plates, blocking. etc.: <br /> (An example that meets the specrf'ications below is Hem-fir(north)#2 <br /> and better) <br /> Fb - 1100 psi (rep) E = 1,400,000 <br /> Fc-- = 370 psi Fv = 75 psi <br /> (2) Joists. rafters. beams, and headers (unless stated otherwise on <br /> the Drawings) <br /> (An example that meets the specifications below is Douglas Fir-Larch#2 <br /> and better) <br /> Fb = 1450 psi(rep) E = 1,700,000 <br /> Fc - 1050 psi . Fv - 95 psi <br /> 2. Laminated Veneer Lumber Beams: To be Micro-Lam as manufactured by Trus Joist <br /> Corporation or approved equal. <br /> (a) The supplier of laminated veneer lumber beams is to design and provide metal <br /> connectors for all structural beam connections. Connections for applicable <br /> loading conditions shall be designed by a professional structural engineer. <br /> (b) Provide Shop Drawings for all beams and metal connectors for these beams <br /> according to Section 00160. <br /> 3. Structural Connectors:The Contractor is solely responsible for providing structural metal <br /> connectors for all wood framing connections that are designated on the Drawings and as <br /> noted below: <br /> (a) All connections that are shown on the Drawings with a load In Kips. j <br /> The Contractor is solely responsible for ensuring that these connections are <br /> designed by a registered structural engineer, using the loading shown on the <br /> Architect's Drawings. This requirement includes beam to beam,post to beam, <br /> truss to beam,and truss to truss connections,as well as all other areas that <br /> require metal connectors to carry any part of stnxlural bads. <br /> (b) All miscellaneous metal connectors such as joist hangers,straps,post <br /> connectors, etc. <br />
