MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING <br />HELD JANUARY 13, 1992' <br />DNR'S PROPOSAL FOR PUBLIC ACCESS ON MAXWELL BAY <br />Mark Breneman, General. Manager of North Shore Drive Marina, <br />emphasized that the property'the DNR is considering for purchase <br />has been for sale for many years. He felt that the DNR should <br />start by purchasing Gayle's Marina and work eastward. He stated <br />that once the property is purchased, it will- not remain <br />unoccupied for long. <br />Don Germanson, President of the LMLOA, noted a favorable response <br />for the current proposal.' He reiterated that land use issues <br />should be dealt with first, and suggested not purchasing the <br />residential property at this time. <br />JoEllen Hurr, LMCD Representative, noted she is concerned about <br />the magnitude of the project and supported the idea of starting <br />to purchase property from Gayle's Marina and working eastward. <br />Castagna pointed out all property owners around the lake feel the <br />parcel is a bad buy. He felt they should start development at <br />the other end. <br />Marge Gasch, 1030 Tonkawa Road, stated her main concern is water <br />quality and boat density on Maxwell Bay. She felt these should <br />be first considerations. <br />Ken Zullo, 3160 North Shore Drive, felt the access to the <br />property is extremely unsafe. <br />Callahan commented that the proposal was just presented to 'the <br />Council that evening, and they would need time to respond <br />formally. <br />Sweatt asked if the DNR had any plans to publicize the proposal. <br />Mayor Peterson noted an article was in the Sun newspaper and also <br />the Pioneer publishing a phone-number to call for a copy of the. <br />proposal. <br />' Kimball noted his phone number is 772 -7936, and those wishing a <br />copy can call him. <br />13 <br />
