MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING <br />HELD JANUARY 13, 1992 <br />DNR'S PROPOSAL FOR PUBLIC ACCESS ON MAXWELL BAY - CONT. <br />Assussen indicated that if the land is purchased,.one option is <br />to not develop land, and possibly selling the land. <br />Callahan suggested that if the money is not committed, the study <br />will be broader in its overall consideration. <br />Mayor Peterson questioned Kimball about Item #2 which potentially <br />asks for monetary contributions from the City of Orono. <br />Kimball noted that is up to the City to decide but the DNR felt <br />it would make them real partners in the proposal. <br />Sweatt questioned if the marinas are purchased and the docks are <br />removed, access to the lake is lost. <br />Callahan advised that the purchase of the marinas was an idea <br />that may have originated from discussions by Council with the <br />DNR, regarding purchasing existing marinas to provide public <br />access. <br />Kimball stated that public dockage may be provided and is an <br />option. <br />Assussen noted the opportunity exists for collateral uses of the„ <br />area such as shore fishing which would take away from boat' <br />traffic such as mentioned in the LMCD's plan. <br />Callahan reiterated that the City of <br />plan with complete approval. <br />Norm Paurus, 2500 Casco Point Road, <br />but strongly believed that Item #3 <br />priority.
