Box 66
Orono, MN 55356 Crystal Bay, MN 55323-0066
July 18, 1994
Mr. Steven Krogness
605 Stubbs Bay Road North
Maple Plain, Minnesota 55359
Dear Mr. Krogness:
The purpose of this letter is to confirm the results of our July 12, 1994 inspection of your septic
system. Duane Ritter excavated the septic system beginning at the area where discharge was
evidenced revealing a chunk of clay sewer line completely plugged with sewage solids. This
pipe crumpled into pieces from contact with a hand shovel. Further excavation revealed a transit
pipe in good condition beyond this section, however the line ended at this point and an area was
excavated approximately 10' in diameter and no evidence of a drainfield area was observed.
The soil excavated in this area was original, indicating that the system never had a drainf'ield.
Based on the site inspection, no repair of the existing system can be made which will relieve the
surface discharge problem that is currently being experienced. A system repair would only be
effective if the drainfield line was plugged, but drainfield trenches were available and in
adequate condition to receive the sewage output from the home. As no drainfield is available,
a new system must be installed. Site evaluation and septic system design have been completed
and approved by the City for installation. Other sites may be available on your property which
meet City and State code if the cunent design is not satisfactory for you.
In order to insure that repairs will be completed in a timely fashion, the following repair tune
line must be met. Soil testing and septic system design must be submitted by August 1, 1994
for approval. Once the plan is approved, several bids should be obtained and a permit must be
issued to the contractor of your choice by September 1, 1994.
If there are any questions or problems that arise during the repair procedure, please contact me
at the City offices as soon as possible to prevent legal complications. The City of Orono's office
hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Sincer ,"

Stephen Weckman
On-Site Systems Manager
SW/ch
Telephone (612) 473-7357 • FAX 473-0510
