% — <br />VILLAGE OP ORONO <br />7:30 P.M. <br />C <br />Regular Heating of the Planning Comniesion, <br />Mctember 19, 1973 <br />fta Planning Ccwmlasion net on the above date. <br />Chairman Paurus called the meeting to order at <br />^30 P.M. !Hie following members were present: <br />^irm^ paurus, Gasch, Hays. Van Nest, Kullberg, <br />miott arrived at 8:10 P.M. Absent: Guthrie, <br />Kokesh, Searlea. <br />Chairman Paurus opened the public hearing con- <br />Corning a conditional use permit for a ski area <br />on Parcel 2300 Plat 41331. At 7:33 P.M. the <br />Zoning Administrator presented the Notice of <br />Public Hearing, the Affidavit of Publication, <br />end the Certificate of Mailing to affected <br />property owners. <br />The conditional use permit would involve 38 <br />acres and four dual ski tows. Mr. Richard <br />Primus, speaking on behalf of Ski Tonka said <br />that expansion was needed to alleviate crowding <br />on the beginner hill and would tend to compli <br />ment the existing slope because of the topogra <br />phy In the area. <br />The following people appeared and were afforded <br />en opportunity to speak: <br />fcnor: <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />Ski Tonka <br />Conditional Use Permit <br />Mr. Benhardus: <br />4360 Bayaide Road <br />Nr. Richard Primus: <br />Mrs. prank: <br />Mr. Kramer: <br />Mr. Poission: <br />Mr. Minor expressed concern that the newly acquired <br />property would be used for parking additional oars. <br />Mr. Benhardus asked whether it would be necessary <br />to construct a new, larger chalet, whether they had <br />ski patrols, and how injured would be handled if it <br />occured on one of the new mins. A petition was sub <br />mitted listing those who oppose the expansion and <br />existing Ski Tonka operation. <br />The existing chalet would be large enough to handle <br />any increase in business. Skl patrols are used cuid <br />a Sprite would be used to carry the injured. <br />Lives north of the Ski Tonka property and they are <br />in favor of its expansion. They apprelcate the <br />fact that the property is well cared for. <br />A petition signed by the Orono High School students <br />%rtio are in favor of expanding Ski Tonka was read. <br />Increasing the tows will make skiing safer. There <br />is H need for additional tows, especially beginner <br />tows. Ski Tonka has been a valuable asset to Orono, <br />and such a recreational facility is needed in the <br />community <br />(Continued)
