Orono City Council Work Session <br /> Monday, October 9, 2017 <br /> Council Chambers 5:30 p.m. <br /> PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Walsh, Council Members Aaron Printup, Richard F. Crosby II <br /> and Wendy Dankey. Representing staff were City Administrator Dustin Rief, Director of <br /> Public Works/City Engineer Adam Edwards and City Clerk Anna Carlson. Representing <br /> Bolton&Menk were Chris Chromy Principal Transportation Engineer and David Martini <br /> Principal Engineer. <br /> Victoria Seals was absent. <br /> Meeting Start Time: 5:45 p.m. <br /> 1. Administrator's Update <br /> City Administrator Dustin Rief presented the Council with an update highlighting the first 30 <br /> days of his employrnent with the City. Rief has been able to meet with members of all <br /> commissions, surrounding administrators, and others since he began in the end of August. Rief <br /> has also gained insight to the city's internal departmental processes. <br /> Rief noted that he has been working on a negotiations contract with Public Works and Loca149 <br /> and is pleased that they are moving along very well and close to finishing it up. <br /> Council Member, Wendy Dankey would like to know how she can find out more about the <br /> contract prior to its introduction to a city council meeting. <br /> Mayor, Dennis Walsh stated that in the past staff initially went through the contract and then it <br /> was brought to the council. It can be tabled, if council does not agree with the contract. <br /> Rief noted that he has been participating in all hiring activities for the Parks and Golfs Course <br /> Supervisor position. They have been discussing the top candidates for the position and are close <br /> to selecting the final candidate. <br /> Rief is currently working with the Leadership Team in developing an overall communications <br /> plan to better improve the organization. Rief noted that he would like to do a goal setting session <br /> with Council. <br /> Rief plans to continue to assess and address potential problem areas as part o�his <br /> communications plan. <br />
