We are assuming that the existing wood beam is a
6"x 12" timber, and the addition of thew column reduces its span from 20' to two spans, one
of'7' and one of 13'. With the reduced span this beam is stl inadequate ad wl require one ply
of gang lam 1 3/4 z 11 1/4 glued and nailed to one side.
If it is found that this beam is a 4"x 12" and not a 6"x 12", add one mre gang lam of the same
size. Gang lam's should have an Fb of 3100 P.S.I.
If you aze going to use a steel adjust-a post in lieu of a standard 3" steel pipe column at the new
column location, the adjust-a post must have a capacity of 10 kips.
We have checked the existing W 10 x 68 beam at the firstoor and it has adequate capacity fr .
this change. .
Sincerely yours, _
ILLSTOFTE ASSOCIATES,INC.
`•
H.
