ttt
WAYZATA CO U N T RY C L U B cWc
200 Wayzata Boulevarcl West
Wayzata, Minnesota 55391
Phone 952.473.8846 • Fax 952.475.9748
September 17, 2014 CVNTRY CLUQ'
Andrew Mack, AICP
Community Development Director, City of Orono, MN
2750 Kelley Parkway
Orono, MN 55356
Dear Mr. Mack:
i have read the September 12 letter from the Chevy Chase neighbors, and thought it would be
productive to clarify Wayzata Country Club's approach to their drainage issue. Importantly, when I,
along with our Golf Course Superintendent met with Mr. Olson and the Chevy Chase neighbors earlier
this summer, it was the first we had heard of this concern since we obtained our conditional use permit
to add the drainage pipes over 18 years ago.
I'm sure you will understand that as a non-profit organization with a Board and Governance protocols it
took a while to vet the situation through the proper channels, and I explained this to the homeowners.
Our Executive Committee thought it best that we start by meeting with the City of Orono in an effort to
explore some practical steps to mitigate the situation. Our Club President and I met with lessica Loftus
on August 18th, and her advice was that this matter would be best resolved through discussions
between WCC and the Chevy Chase neighbors. Once we knew the City's stance, I was in touch with Mr.
Olson and Mrs. Howe and told them we were working on trying to determine a workable solution, a
response they seemed to appreciate. To that end, we quickly hired an engineer-at our expense-in an
effort to find workable solutions to the issues. It was my understanding from conversations with both
the Olson's and the Howe's that the neighbors would give us time to study the engineering report and
get back with them to discuss their findings. Their September 12 letter, and your response, have come
as a surprise to us as we explore viable solutions.
Wayzata Country Club has always been a good neighbor to the Chevy Chase home ownert, and we
clearly intend to continue that relationship in the future.
I would appreciate any clarity and assistance you may be able to provide.
Respectfully,
CV"a
Chris Gerardi
G M/C00
wayzata Country Club RECi
SEP 19 2014
CITY OF ORONO
