NOTICE TO INSTALLER: Inttructiont mutt remain with inttaiiation.
EZPim HF0572
0487
Supersedes
0186
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Product inlormation presented here
reflects conditions at time rt
publication. Consult factoi^8garding
discrepancies or inconsistencies.
These installation instructions are applicable for the following pumps and usage applications:
SUMP (DEWATERING)EFFLUENT*SEWAGE
LoBoy 1. 2, 3, 4, 5 & 20 . LoBoy 1, 2, 3 & 4 LoBoya
>
- NOTICE: VENT HOLE FOR CHECK VALVE - PAGE 2
•Effluent systems should specify that pumps shoulcThot handle solids exceeding five flTghts Inch (%") in order to
prevent large solids from entering leeching fields, mound systems and etc. Where codes permit, sewage pumps can be
used for effluent systems. ^
PREINSTALLATION CHECKLIST — ALL U$^ALLATiONS
1. Inspect your pump. Occasionally, products are damaged
during shipment. If the unit is damaged, contact your dealer
before using. '
2. Carefully read the literature provided to familiarize yourself
with specific details regarding installation and use. These
materials should be retained for future reference.
3. Make sure there Is a property Installed ground fault Inter
rupter available. All pumps are furnished with provisions for
prcper grounding to help protect you against the possibility of
electrical shock.
(SEE WARNING BELOW)
4. Make certain thrc the ground fault interrupter receptacia is
within reach of the pump's power supply cord. DO NOT USE .*.N
EXTENSION CORD. Extension cords that are too long or too
tight do not deliver sufficient voltage to the purr.p motor. But,
more Important, they could present a safety hazard if the
insulation were to become damaged or the connection ends
were to fall into the sump.
5. Check to be sure your power source is capable of handling
the voltage requirements of the motor, as indicated on the pump
name plate.
6. Make sure the pump electrical supply circuit is equipped with
fuses or circuit breakers of proper capacity. A separate branch
circuit is recommended, sized according to th National Elec
trical Code for the current shown on the pump name plate.
7. Testing for Ground. As a safety measure, each electrical
outlet should be checked for ground using an Underwriters
Laboratory Listed circuit analyzer which will indicate if the
power, neutral and ground wires are correctly connected to
your outlet. If they are not. call a qualified licensed electrician.
8. WARNING: The installation of automatic pumps with mercury
float switches or non-automatic pumps using auxiliary mercury
float switches is the responsibility of the installing party and
care should be taken that the tethered float switch will not hang
up on the pumping apparatus or pit peculiarities and is secured
so that the pump will shut off. It is recommended to use rigid
piping and fittings andlhe pit be 18" or larger is diameter.
4.1
9. Information - hole purpoM. It is necessary that all
submersible sur^^-i -*117 and sewage pumps capable of
handling various sues of solid waste be of the bottom intake
design to reduce clogging and seal failures. If a check valve is
incorporated in the installation, a vent hole (approx. 3/16")
must be drilled ir. the discharge pipe below the check valve and
pit cover to purge ine unit of trapped air. Trapped air is caused
by agitation and/or a <y basin. This vent hole should be
checked periodically for clogging. The LoBoy 1. 2. 4 & 20
pumps have a built-in vent
CAUTIONS A WARNINGS
CAUTION:
Installation and checking of electrical circuits and hardware
ohould only be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.
CAUTION:
Repair and service should be performed by HI-LO Industries
Authorized Service Station only.
CAUTION:
Effluent pumps are not designed or intended for use to handle
sewage.
CAUTION:
Maximum continuous operating temperature for standard
model pumps must not exceed 130“F. (54* C.)
WARNING:
FOR YOUR PROTECTION ALWAYS DISCONNECT PUMP
FROM ITS POWER SOURCE BEFORE HANDLING.
Single phase pumps are supplied with a 3-prong grounded plug
to help protect you against the possibility of electrical shock.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES REMOVE THE
GROUND PIN. The 3-prong plug mutt be inserted into a mating
3-prong ground fault interrupter receptacle. If the installation
does not have such a receptacle, it must be changed to the
proper type, wired and grounded in accordance with the
National Electrical Code and all applicable local codas and
ordinances.
