(GES)was retained to delineate wetlands
at a single-family residence located west of North Old Crystal Bay road and north
of Fox Street in the City of Orono, Minnesota. The project area is located in part
of the NE '/ SW '/ Section 4, T117N, R23W, Hennepin County, Minnesota
(Figure 1). As shown on the U.S.G.S. Quadrangle map (Figure 2), the site is
relatively flat but slopes down toward the west.
On April 11, 2012, GES conducted an evaluation of the site, collecting data and
delineating a wetland which runs north and south in the western portion of the lot
as shown in Figure 3.
Methodologies
The wetland was delineated using the on-site methods contained in the "Routine
Determinations" section of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers "Wetlands
Delineation Manual' (Technical Report Y-87-1, 1987), as well as "Regional
Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual: Midwest Region"
(U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 2010). These are the methodologies currently used to
determine wetlands by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for implementation of Section
404 of the Clean Water Act and by Local Government Units under the Wetland
Conservation Act.
GES classified the wetland under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS)
Cowardin system, Circular 39 and Eggers and Reed methodologies. Soil colors
described herein follow Munsell Soil Color Charts. Hydric soil properties
described follow Field Indicators of Hydric Soils in the United States(Untied
States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service.
2010.
