Gem Technical
Plumbing
Plan No. PLB1201-00142
Page 2
January 30,2012
a. A fixture trap or a fixture with an integral trap, readily removable without disturbing concealed piping,
may be accepted as a cleanout equivalent for this purpose.
b. A floor drain cleanout may be omitted if the floor drain or fixture branch line is less than 5 feet in
length.
c. Floor drains used for shower drains, recessed slop, or similar receptors may have the full-sized cleanout
installed on the individual vent pipe serving the fixture or on the fixture.
5. It is recommended that a cleanout be provided where new waste and vent piping connects with existing
plumbing to facilitate required testing of the new installation.
6. All solder and flux used for the potable water distribution systems shall contain less than 0.2 percent lead.
Use of 50-50 solder or flux containing more than 0.2 percent lead is prohibited in potable water distribution
systems. Any solder other than 95-5 tin-antimony or 96-4 tin-silver must be specifically approved by the
administrative authority prior to use(see Minnesota Statutes, Section 326B.439). Joints to be soldered must
be properly fluxed with noncorrosive paste-type flux complying with ASTM Standard B813-00.
7. PVC plastic pipe used for the drain, waste, and vent system shall comply with ASTM Standard D2665,
D2949 or F891 (see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.0570 through part 4715.0600). Above-grade horizontal
runs of plastic waste and vent pipe cannot exceed 35 feet in total length. Above-grade vertical stacks
constructed of plastic pipe may exceed 35 feet in total height only if an approved expansion joint is used.
8. The plumbing system shall be tested in accordance with Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2820.
NOTE(S):
1. The scope of this project consists of a remodel of the office and training areas of an existing facility.
Installation includes six restrooms, two showers, kitchenette sinks, a mop sink,a drinking fountain, a semi-
circular wash sink, floor drains, 80-gallon water heater, and a 6-gallon water heater.
2. This facility will be served by existing municipal water and sewer services.
Authorization for construction in accordance with the approved plans may be withdrawn if construction is not
undertaken within a period of two years. The fact that the plans have been approved does not necessarily mean that
recommendations or requirements for change will not be made at some later time when changed conditions,
additional information, or advanced knowledge make improvements necessary.
Approved:
Cathy M.Tran,PE
Plumbing Plan Review and Inspections Unit
651/284-5898
cc: Voson Plumbing Inc.
City of Orono Building Official✓
File
