MEMO <br />To: Jessica Loftus, City Administrator <br />From: Tom Stringer, Director of Business Services Ia. ftalgc� <br />Justin McCoy, Coordinator of Facilities and Safety <br />RE: Orono Schools Traffic Improvements <br />Date: April 4, 2016 <br />At our February 23, 2016 meeting, it was asked of the school to create a list of internal improvements <br />we have made to assist with safety and congestion. The following completes this request. <br />�,, a1 r c, Zo b <br />Schumann Elem Drop Off L4 OYZ *V4 0 200 Ooo <br />a Routed traffic through the HS South parking and extended drop off sidewalk to remove queuing <br />off Old Crystal Bay Road. <br />Middle School Lane Extension <br />Added a second lane extension to the front drop off to reduce a bottle neck during pick up and <br />drop off. <br />Middle School Drop Off <br />• Routed traffic through the front parking lot of the Middle School and exited all traffic out the <br />North entry point. <br />Intermediate School Internal Parking Lot <br />Closed a cross over driveway between the front circle and the south parking lot. This organized <br />traffic which created better flow in turn reduced traffic build up on Old Crystal Bay Road. <br />Intermediate School Pick-up <br />Took 33% of the pick-up traffic and relocated pick up location to rear of building and exited all <br />traffic out to Co ltd 112, which relieved traffic from Old Crystal Bay Road. <br />Co Rd 112 Gate <br />Opened and maintaining the west gravel road for exit and entry to the Intermediate School to <br />help relieve traffic from Old Crystal Bay Road. <br />Installed pedestrian Gate <br />• Installed a pedestrian gate to help limit traffic when students are at recess at the Intermediate <br />School. This gate is fully on school grounds. During this time, all traffic to the rear of the <br />Intermediate School is coming off Co Rd 112 which reduces Old Crystal Bay Road Traffic. <br />u <br />in al Traffic Study <br />• In the process of receiving a quote from SRF Consulting on internal traffic study ^j Q <br />F!14V� 7dLZ ) s 4C <br />
