SCOPE: The following specifications, including special items and <br /> modifications, shall govern the construction of the fireplace <br /> and chimney. <br /> WORK INCLUDED: All labor, materials, equipment, appliances, anchors, <br /> bolts, miscellaneous iron work and all other reinforcing <br /> steel, as indicated on the plans and as herein specified. <br /> MATERIALS: Materials shall be as follows: <br /> -Water shall be clean and potable. <br /> -Sand conforming to "Aggregate for Masonry Mortar", ASTM C144. <br /> -Portland cement conforming to ASTM C150. <br /> -Hydrated lime conforming to "Hydrated Lime for Masonry Purpose", <br /> ASTM C207, Type S. <br /> -Steel reinforcing conforming to DEFORMED BILLET STEEL BARS <br /> CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT ASTM A615 - Grade 40. <br /> -Brick, meeting the requirements for "Building Brick", ASTM C62. <br /> -Block meeting the requirements for "Solid Load Bearing Concrete <br /> Masonry Units", ASTM C145-71. <br /> -Flue lining conforming to Clay Flue Linings, ASTM C315. <br /> MORTAR PROPORTIONS: TABLE NO. 24-A MORTAR PROPORTIONS <br /> (Parts by Volume) <br /> YJ'.:,!7X COXPkEESIVE HYDH.4TED LIMES DAMP <br /> 1OHTAR STF1.ES2;TH AT 2E DAYS PORTLAND Oil LIME PETTY MASONRY LOOSE <br /> I'YPE (p.S.i. Type 0 Mortar is not recommended for <br /> fireplace construction. <br /> RE-TEMPERING: Permitted only by adding water within a basin formed <br /> of mortar and the mortar reworked into the water. <br /> Mortar which has become harsh and non-plastic shall <br /> not be re-tempered or used. <br />
