When water conditioning or other point of entry water treatment equipment is installed in a water
distribution system served by an on-site well, a sampling tap is needed prior to the equipment that will
allow sampling of untreated water.
3. Verify that the drainage branches on the first and second floors that serve the lavatories, floor drain, and
urinal increase to a minimum 2%Z-inch diameter pipe at the point of connection of the urinal. The drainage
load on this section of pipe is seven drainage fixture units and the maximum dra.inage load on a 2-inch
diameter pipe is six drainage fixture units(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2310,subpart 2).
4. At the point where a 2-inch drainage branch increases in size,a cleanout must be provided. If a fixture
drainage branch is installed at the point where the pipe increases in size and if the fixture drainage branch is
the same diameter as the lazger pipe,it may serve as the cleanout for this portion of the system. Cleanouts
must be of the same nominal size as the pipes they serve up to 4 inches in diameter and not less than 4
inches for larger piping(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1010).
5. Changes in direction in dramage piping must be made by appropriate use of wyes and bends. Sanitary tees
are not allowed where the direction of flow changes from either vertical to horizontal or horizontal to
horizontal(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2410).
6. The size of the urinal supply fixture branch was not noted on the submitted riser diagram.Urinals equipped
with flush valves must be provided with a 3/o-inch minimum water supply branch(see Minnesota Rules,
part 4715.1730,subpart 2).
7. A full-way valve must be provided on the cold water supply line to the water heater(see Minnesota Rules,
part 4715.1800).
8. Water closets in public bathrooms must have open-front seats.
9. It is recommended that a cleanout be provided where new waste and vent piping connects with existing
plumbing to facilitate required testing of the new installation.
10. The polyethylene used for the water service must meet ANSI Standard B72.1 or ASTM Standards D2239 or
D2737. This ma.terial may only be used up to the pressure tank and there may be no more than two feet
exposed within the building(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0510).
11. Materials used for the building sewer must comply with the standards specified in Minnesota Rules, part
4715.0530.The PVC plastic pipe material to be used for the building sewer must meet one of the following
ASTM Standards: D3034,F789,D2665, or F89L The installation must comply with ASTM
Standard D2321 (see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0530).
12. PVC plastic pipe used for the drain, waste, and vent system shall comply with ASTM Standard D 2665,
D 2949 or F 891 (see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0570 through part 4715.0600). Solvent weld joints in PVC
and CPVC pipe must include use of a primer which is of contrasting color to the pipe and cement(see
Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0810, subpart 2).
13. The copper water distribution piping must meet ASTM Standard B 88 (see Minnesota Rules,
part 4715.0520).
