' <br /> Division 3.Any building used for day-care purposes for more than six children. <br /> ' For occupancy separations,see Table No.5-B. <br /> Construction,Helght and Allowabie Area <br /> Sec. 802. (a) General. Buiidings or parts of buildings classed in Group E <br /> because of the use or character of the occupaacy shall be limited to the types of <br /> construction set forth in Tables No.5-C and No.5-D and shall not exceed,in area <br /> . or height,the limits specified in Sections 505,506 and 507,except that the area <br /> may be increased by 50 percent when the maximum travel distance specif'ied in <br /> Section 3303(d)is reduced by 50 percent. <br /> (b)Atmospheric Separation Requirements. 1.Definitions.For the purpose <br /> of this chapter and Section 3319,the following definidons are applicable: <br /> COMMON ATMOSPHERE.A common atmosphere exists between rooms, <br /> spaces or areas within a building which aze not separaced by an approved smoke <br /> and draft-stop barrier. <br /> SEPARATE ATMOSPHERE.A sepazate atmosphere exists between rooms, <br /> spaces or areas that are separated by an approved smoke and draft-stop barrier. <br /> SMOKE AND DRAFT BARRIER• A smoke and draft bazrier consists of <br /> walls,partitions,floors and opening§therein of such construcdon as will prevent <br /> the transmission of smoke or gases through the construction. <br /> 2.General provisions.The provisions of this subsecdon apply when a sepa- <br /> rate exit system is required in accordance with Section 3319. <br /> ' Walls,partitions and floors forming all of,or parc of,an atmospheric separa- <br /> tion shall be of materials consistent with the requirements for the type of construc- <br /> tioa,but of construction not less effective than a smoke-or draft-stop barrie� <br /> . Giass lights of approved wired glass set in steel frame.s may be installed in such <br /> walls or paztitions. <br /> Every door opening thereia shall be protected with a fire assembly as required ! <br /> elsewhere in the code,but not less than a self-closing or automatic-closing,tight- <br /> fitting smoke barrier and fire assembly having a fire-protection rating of not less <br /> than 20 minutes when tested in accordance with U.B.C.Standard No.43-2.
