Most
importantly, it would be difficult for the contractors to know where to e. 1 ver, and it is
very important that excavation into the underlying/adjacent wetland doE _a an anticipated
removal of the stockpile sometime around June 2011 (after things dry out .a nelt--there will be less of an issue
of significant disturbance from heavy equipment on saturated soils on site,.
As I mentioned, because the stockpile will be on site throughout the spring melt, it is crucial that you make sure the
perimeter control and stabilization of the entire stockpile is in place as soon as possible (we discussed the use of
firewood in conjunction with silt fence as perimeter control, which would be acceptable as long as it is functional and is
able to keep runoff contained to the stockpile area and out of the adjacent wetland). Formal enforcement actions may
be pursued if additional wetland impacts occur due to perimeter control failure and/or lack of adequate stabilization.
I will be contacting you in mid-April to set up a site meeting to verify that the perimeter control and stockpile
stabilization we discussed is in place and adequate. Depending on the weather conditions, you may be contacted earlier
to verify these items are in place if significant snowmelt is occurring. It is your responsibility to ensure the perimeter
control and stockpile stabilization are in place prior to sprin melt to avoid sediment impacts to the adjacent wetland
from runoff.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Catherine Bach
District Technician
Minnehaha Creek Watershed District
18202 Minnetonka Boulevard
Deephaven, MN 55391
Direct: (952) 641-4504
Main Office: (952)471-0590
Fax: 952-471-0682
www.minnehahacreek.or
i
