REGULAR MEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL, JUNE 30 , 1980 Page 29
I have submitted the attached sketch plan and cost DRAINAGE CONTROL
estimates to the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District Long Lake Blvd.
with the understanding that Council approval has not (Continued)
been received. Mr . Holmquist stated that if the plan
is not approved by the Orono Council, we can back out
of the program.
Council Meeting - June 30 , 1980
Mayor Van Nest moved, Hurr seconded, to request the
Minnehaha Creek Watershed District to install rip rap
at the Long Lake Boulevard drainage problem area for
the estimated cost of $8 , 400 . Motion, Ayes (3) -
Nays (0 ) . Councilman Paurus temporarily absent.
Dick Benson, City Administrator, prepared a memo RELOCATION
regarding the Public Works Department relocation PUBLIC WORKS DEPT.
dated June 16 , 1980 , which states: Robb Property
The City Council requested staff to review the Public
Works Department and the need to relocate it to an
area suitable for its operation.
The City has had property appraisals and Planning
Commission reviews of several possible sites, including
the present City owned French Lake area and the privately
owned Robb property, located on Highway #12 and the
Old Crystal Bay Road.
The French Lake property, 40 acres, breaks down to 28
wet acres, six wooded acres, and six usable acres for
other uses.
To consolidate the Public Works operation at the French
Lake site , would destroy many trees and impose an
environmental impact on the wetlands in the center
of a residential area.
The Robb property is suitable for Public Works functions
and it is my recommendation that the City consider
pursuing this site for future City ownership, while
considering selling the French Lake property allowing
it to remain as a residential use.
Council Meeting - June 30 , 1980
Mayor Van Nest moved, Butler seconded, to authorize
Dick Benson, City Administrator, to negotiate with
the Robb property owners for the relocation of the
Public Works Department. Motion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) .
