•, REGULAR MEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL, APRIL 14 , 1980 Page 60
For your review, please find Orono' s Resolution #1106 , HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION*
which really does request adherence to a prioritized (Continued)
scheduling of an overall plan to provide alternative
routes from the western Lake Minnetonka communities
to the Twin Cities.
Orono does recognize that developing alternate
routes to the Twin Cities will not significantly
reduce existing traffic volumes on the internal
road system, but it is reasonable to anticipate
that future growth will occur in the western Lake
Minnetonka area and an alternate route to accommodate
commuter traffic to the Twin Cities is of extreme
importance to all of us.
Again, thank you for your effort on this matter. "
End of letter
Council Meeting - April 14 , 1980
Butler moved, Hurr seconded, to approve the above
letter to A. J. Lee, Associate County Administrator,
concerrir.g highway construction in the Lake Minnetonka
area. Motion, Ayes (4) - P7ays (0) .
Dick Benson, City Administrator, sent the following WAYZATA LETTER*
letter to Mayor Bill Humphrey, Wayzata Mayor, con- Highway Construction
cerning highway construction for the Lake Minnetonka
area, dated April 7 , 1980, which states:
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank
you for your excellent Resolution #1983 supporting
Orono' s position encouraging alternate routing for
commuter traffic in the Lake Minnetonka area.
The position taken by Wayzata and Orono is supported
by Tonka Bay, Minnetonka Beach, and Minnetrista
and does represent the deep concerns that we all
have in protecting the environmentally sensitive
Lake Minnetonka area.
We have poceeded to discuss our concerns with Hennepin
County Commissioner Bud Robb and Associate County
Administrator Art Lee and I am convinced that Hennepin
County is prepared to re-examine its immediate and
future planning for future road and bridge construction
in the lake area and will initiate a mini study allowing
all of our cities input in the total planning process.
(Continued)
