Manthe - Harza Engineering Company John Harrington - Metro Council Bob Mazanec - Metro Council The purpose of this meeting was to discuss Medina' s grant application to construct their proposed Medina- Morningside sewers and also the bypass pipe at Long Lake. _ The meeting, chaired by Al Larson of the PCA, was specifically arranged, as we discovered, to inform the City of Orono and the City of P�sedina that a federal grant to finance the Medina sewers would not be supported by the PCA unless the intended bypass was enlarged to accommodate additional flows from th� Maple Plain Wastewater Treatment Plant when that plant is closed, which is the preferred alternative supported by the PCA at this time. It was obvious that the PCA' s rationale to cease operation of the Maple Plain Wastewater Treatment Plant and construct an interceptor through the City of Orono to Long Lake was not based upon supportive data that has been accumulated from various reports throughout the years that encourages modification of the PsaAle Plain Wastewater Treatment Plant to accommodate phosphorus removal equipment and initiate an I/I study and evenutal elimination of unwanted infiltration. Mayor Van Nest, Bruce Malkerson, and myself inet Thursday to draft a position letter to the MWCC and the PCA which is included in your agenda packet. The MWCC will be meeting Tuesday, April 15, 1980 at 2 : 00 P.M. to discuss the Maple Plain Wastewater Treatment Plant. Orono will be represented at that meeting. (Continued)
