Douc�herty <br /> Chief Administrator <br /> Metropolitan �7aste Control Coru�ission <br /> 350 rsetro Square Building <br /> 7th & Robert Streets <br /> St. Paul, Minnesota 55101 <br /> Dear Mr. Doughertv: <br /> The City of Orono has reviewed the P�etrono�itan :�7aste Control <br /> Comriission' s 201 Southwest Facilities Study internally and <br /> also with *S?9CC staff and their consultants. <br /> The study was prompted b�� the P�[�7CC' s concerns with increased <br /> population and industrical growth, which is incor�orated into <br /> long range plans for service area #4, including the Cityo uf <br /> Orono. <br /> Located within service area #4 , in the center of a designated <br /> rural area, is the PZaple Plain waste water treatment plant <br /> which does not have adequate phosphorous and suspended solids <br /> removal facilities. The choice of three alternatives in resolving <br /> 24aple Plain' s inadequate nutrient removal process, which was not <br /> evaluated on a local service area context, but on an entire <br /> regional context, has been as indicated to us to construct an <br /> interceptor fror.► Maple Plain, an existing rural area through <br /> Orono' s existing rural area to the City of Long Lake, which has <br /> not yet become fully developed. <br /> The City of Orono is diametrically opposed to the alternative of <br /> constructing an interceptor through the heart of Orono' s rural <br /> area. <br />
