I appreciate your input concerning the Arcola Bridge repairs, which we have been informed will be closed during 1980. �his spring , we were informed by Hennepin County that the reason Orono was not rec�uested to aPprove the closing of the Coffee and Ploerenberg bridges for repairs �vas that these two particular bridges were not being re wnstructed but were only to be closed for repairs and did not require Orono' s approval, even though these closings i*►eant an extreme hardship and inconvenience to the public. On May 8, 1975 ,_ the Orono City Council requested coordin ation of all projects within the City and also requested Hennepin County to submit to us all plans for approval when a bridge is to be closed or repaired and not to program two bridges within one - construction year. � June 26 , 1979 Orono received a letter from Hennepin County comment- ing that projects considered to be of a routine maintenance nature will not be presented to the City Council for approval. c These are the inconsistencies that cause us grave concerns. We feel that Orono should have the right of approval of a project regardless of the nature of construction or repair �ahen the construction or repairs cause any type of detour or closing. It appears that this prdc�dure would be in the best interest of Hennepin County , Orono , and our residents and commuters in expediting safe traffic r.iover.ients throughout the area.
