' A rlemo from John Gerharc�son, Public ��orks Coordinator, Er"PLOYEE ASSISTANCE* concerning the employee assistance prograr� dated PROGRAM December 4, 1978 , states : In Nover-iber of 1977, the City of Orono bec�an participating in the employee assistance program. The program was initiated as a three-year prograr_1 with the City of Orono participating and evaluating the program after one year to determine the effective- ness and to decide after the evaluation whether or not to contiriue. The cost of the prograr,i is based on the number of employees times a set rate per enPloyee. For 1977, 44 employees were considered at $8. 00 per employee. This program is also funded by the State of I4innesota and adriinistrered by Hennepin County. The cost schedule is as follows : Year one - 90� State funded - l0o City share Year two - 50°s State funded - 50o City share Year three- 100% 100g City share At this time, there is discussion that the program may receive funding for year three whereby we could possibly be subsidized by the State for a portion of our costs. Another change in the program is the cutoff date being changed to June 30 and the cost Per employee increased from $8. 00 to $10 . 00 per eraployee. I have reviewed the program with department heads and everyone feels they would prefer to participate in the program until June 30, which would allow us to better evaluate the effectiveness of the program. The cost to remain in tlie progra� until June 30 , 1979 will be $165. 00. It is my recoru�endation to continue the prograrn until June 3Q, 1979 . (Continued)
